Keep the children happy and encourage their growing minds this summer at Airlie! The Environmental Education Program camps our designed to keep kids active and learning through the summer. Our camps our for children who enjoy the outdoors and like learning about nature. For more information call 910-798-7564.


 

1 Butterfly Garden. This garden attracts butterflies by providing nectar plants for adult butterflies and host plants for their young.

2 Minnie Evans Sculpture Garden. The BottleChapel, metal sculptures, mosaics and ceramic sculp-tures were designed by area artists and completed with the help of volunteers and local schoolchildren.

3 Showcase Gardens. Featuring an ornamental fountain acquired by the Corbett Family, this area is surrounded by gardens featuring the talents of local landscape designers.

4 Pergola Garden. A classical Italian feature that was added to the Garden in the early 1900s, this structure is built of coquina and surrounded by beds of seasonally changing flowers.

5 Mystery Grave. This is the burial spot of an 18th century gentleman who took the name “John Hill”. According to local legend he had been one of Napoleon’s twelve marshals before immigrating to this country.

6 Camellia Garden. This is a wonderful place to view the majesty of an old oak grove and a vast collection of antique camellias planted in the early 1900s. This garden also features a 150-foot rose trellis and other flowering treasurers.

7 Spring Garden. Designed and installed in the early 1900s, this garden features spring flowering bulbs and a tranquil fountain.

8 Airlie Lake. This freshwater lake was created in 1902 for the reflective properties of water and is surrounded by azalea plantings. Many birds and animals call Airlie Lake home, providing guests with wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities.

9 Airlie Oak. This majestic live oak dates back to 1545, and is the towering center-piece of lush flowerbeds, shrubs and lawn.

Environmental Features

A. Water-Wise Garden. This garden filters stormwater runoff using native plants and other best management practices. Water-wise gardening helps improve local water quality.

B Bradley Creek Pier. This feature allows water access to Bradley Creek for visitors and schoolchildren for educational and recreational purposes.

C Bradley Creek Overlook. This feature invites you to experience the wonders of a tidal creek ecosystem.
